Prolapsed disk

My Mum is 70 in August and has just been told she needs to have the op to syphon out the debris round the prolapsed disc and to shave a bit off the disk to release the nerve. She has been told the incision will only be an inch long. She had the injection before Christmas which helped but a fall onthe ice undid all the good work and she is in absolute agony and can hardly move. If anyone else knows anyone her age who has had this op I would love to hear how the recovery went. Thanks
