Just wondering if people are getting some kind of kick back for promoting places in San Jose--I have been to all these places and I don't see what some of these guys are seeing--IMO

Have you ever heard the acronym YMMV? It means that not everybody sees the world the way you do.

You will have to be more specific if you want more info on why some guys find some places worth mentioning repeatedly.

I am an SL guy. I hang there alot due to the casual atmosphere and the fact that I can almost always find a friend in the house. My novia is also one of the SL crowd so our visits give her a chance to socialize with her friends and speak Spanish for awhile.

I mention SL in posts because I think it has a lot going for it, especially for someone who is new or traveling alone. I get nothing for my support from Bill or SL. I get the regular CRT discount. I do get a lot of gratitude from fellow mongers who feel I might have helped them have a better trip, including the occasional bottle of Vodka or some such.

In general, you can expect to get an honest uncompensated opinion from any of the longtime posters. We are just trying to help people avoid pitfalls and have a good time. The board is pretty self-regulating: If I post a load about some known venue someone else will provide the opposing opinion in no time. You will undoubtedly be forewarned if someone tries to lead you astray. :wink:

One needs only to look at Bang Bang 57 he got baned from Del Ray for ??? Its his story to tell and I have heard it in three part harmony
I know has nothing to do with CRT
most of use do not flaunt a membership Just use it to save some money and get some hints

From what I noticed was that on every almost any post if you read far enough down, or go looking for a similar post on the same subject, you will find as many other’s post with different experiences or opinions on the subject which may not be as glowing. Matter of fact, if you notice even those with glowing post will also say at times they had a different experience at the same place for various reason, mostly the employees may have changed between visits or it’s a day off for some one. If you read long enough you notice also that ownership of these places can also change and that can have a major effect of quality of the experience.
So I always take their views as they had a good time and I might also. YMMV Except for SL, pretty hard to find different views on any thing there but small details.

I think if also read enough posts on various other subjects you may notice it's the guys who try to blend in more and not stick out, they speak some or good Spanish, eat local, and in general try not to be a obnoxious tourist or live there, that seem to always be having a better time at the out of the way places and at the major places- See Newbie section/El Ciego/Etiquette for Newbie’s for a good idea for some of the things these guys do while behaving around town. See other post’s about treating the ladies with respect for a better time. Apply this across the board and you may be start getting the better experiences all over town that they these other guys are reporting. This is Not to say you have not already doing those things.

Brother Lurker--Trust me, we call out the "promoters" in a heartbeat (and it's been tried). What we have here are talent scouts (Brother BB57 most particularly) and honest reportage and opinion-labeled-as-opinion from contributors. What might be seen as promotion from entrepreneurs--all of whom are Brothers--are answers to questions or updating us on issues or improvements to their CRT-Sponsor properties. We have a few CR business owners among us but I can honestly say they've not, none of them, "pimped" their businesses here.

Back in Jan., a group of us booked an ATV tour with Cary a sponsor here :shock:

Esposo Di Barbie, Arch, EL S, Big Bamboo and I were met at SL by the owner to transport us to his property S.E. of SJO, just a few kilometers shy of Pork Chop hill (note to self... next time do both venues) .

After a brief indoctrination to the ways of riding a 4 wheeler off we went to view some incredible vistas and see a part of CR that few ever get the chance to see.

Our trails were not overly challenging, we had a couple of Evil Kneivel types (Esposo and Arch) then we had the little old man from Chicago that thought he was on a leisurely drive down the Gold coast looking for Oprah :wink:

All in all a great trip and Cary promised us a much more challenging ride next time we book. He has in excess of 100 miles of trails from beginner to expert rider.

Cary's ATV tour was a blast. And I was very impressed with all of the guys getting in there and doing a great job handling the bikes considering that quite a few of them hadn't really ever ridden before.

Cary assured us he had more challenging trails for a future visit, but the trails he took us on were perfect for the blend of experience in our group, which is the appropriate decision on his part. They were twisty enough to be interesting and had enough wide corners to get sideways and let it hang out if you were so inclined (and a few of us were). But my kudos to the newbies for hanging in there and doing a fantastic job being aggressive and not timid with the bikes.

HolaB, you have to remember that AARP's insurance doesn't cover such irresponsible activities as ours, so the old man had to be cautious. And yes he bounced back nicely after the roll. All that talk about Osteoporosis is exaggerated.

Since my name has been mentioned here a couple of times I thought I would chime in on the subject.

Yes, I post a lot of info about different places (both good and bad). I live here, have made knowing the "out of the way" places almost a hobby, and when I find a place or a chica that I really like, yes, I may seem to be promoting her or the place; BUT, as most can tell you, I am just as quick to critize a place or chica.

My objective is to provide what info I can to the brotherhood about the many places that exist here. I concentrate primarily on the MPs, and yes, some guys do not find them interesting, do not like the MP atmostphere, do not like the chicas, etc, but there are many others that do like them. As has been said many times before, YMMV which I think should actually be YMWillV; and that we ALL have different tastes. Differences of opinion and tastes are what makes the world go around (and keeps a LOT of chicas working instead of just a small hand full).

As for receiving any kind of compensation for promoting a place or chica; or having any vested interested in doing so; sometimes I wish I did, but NO WAY!! My compensation comes in the form of having a very large group of fantastic brothers on this site, and knowing a hugh number of working chicas, both good and bad.

I try to always be objective and tell it as I see it (as I believe almost everyone on the forum does). We will talk in glowing terms about a new place we like, a fantastic experience we had, or a "off the charts" chica we found; but we also will just as quickly condemn that same place or chica if the service or experience changes.

I do know several CRT brothers who DO own businesses here, and many of their friends in CRT are aware of their business (and may even use that business) but, I have never seen a brother using his relationship with CRT, or its members, for personal financial gain. And if they did, ADMIN1 would be very quick to call them on it. Actually I guess there was one who tried, but many brothers quickly called his hand, and there was recently a case of a Tico owner of a MP posting what was esentuallly a post promoting his business on a thread about that MP. He did not understand (language problem) that he could not do that, and when I explaned it to him, he was very apologetic and promised to never do it again.

Actually we ALL recieve something when we post something very positive about a place or chica!!! We receive the pleasure of knowing that we have shared our experiences and infomation with our brothers and maybe in some small way, that sharing will help one, or many, of them to have a better experience when here in COSTA RICA. AND TO ME THAT IS WHAT CRT IS ALL ABOUT :!: :idea:

Personally, I think an MP should give Bang a freebie. His posts bring business to the MP's that they would have never gotten, in most instances. And as a CRT member, why would I care :?: I learn about a new MP with hot chicas, great prices and good location even. Hell, I once had 3 chicas in Realx in the span of three hours. Unfortunately, it was my last day.

As for YMMV, yes, it will and it does. Case in point:

Everyone makes a big deal about Jenny...I didn't think she was extraordinary.

So many people love Pamela....I find her kind of gross. And the tipping BS ridiculous.

Karen....OK, she's pretty & nice..but tries to upsell with a dupla. I'd rather find a "diamond in the rough" sitting there who doesn't get the superstar treatment by gringos.

ZB, everyone loves it....I never really had much fun there.

NF...some don't like it. Some abhor their gringo pricing(me too), but I still love the place and that steam room. Although I concede mgt seems to be going downhill there and almost anti-gringo. But I like the chicas and facilities.

SL... I always thought it was kind of boring. I also heard that tehre were so many CRTers hanging out there having a good time. I usually hang solo a lot, maybe too much so on my last trip I decided I would try to make some friends and hang with some goodfellas so I went to SL hung out there quite a bit. Talked to a few guys but I found it very clique-ish.

So again, YMMV. But if a fellow CRTer has a good recommendation, I am happy to try it. learn a new place and can care less if the guy gets a free session or meal, whatever. I have yet to find a good burger in The Gulch, if someone showed me a place where it was great, I would be thankful to know about it and wouldn't be bothered if the owner gave him a freebie. Why would I? Anyway, this board has a good spirit about it where everyone just wants to give his dos centavos and help out. And if you haven't noticed, this is not a very "commercial" board loaded with "self serving blogs." And when it happens, it is obvious. To the contrary, I have seen many posters even go out of their way to recommend something and disclose they are receiving nothing for it.

Bang, this seems directed at you. Keep on keeping on. Who said you were retired? You have a full time job as "low rent MP scout." And you said you weren't rich :?: : :?:

"promoting places on CRT" , Guilty as Charged. Do we mention our favorite places on CRT. Of course! Why? Probably the main reason is hoping that a business or service we like will do well enough to still be there on our next visit. The other logical reason is to give some info back to the guys who took the time to post before. Can you imagine the entire CRT website without any names being mentioned ?
