Psychic iPod rules the treatment room

Has anyone heard of the psychic iPod thing? iPod owners noticing their iPods, when set on random shuffle, playing the perfect songs at the perfect times. Maybe it's just selective noticing, but it's a fun experience.

I have come to depend on it in my treatment room! I took all of my massage CDs, imported them to iTunes, and put them all on an old iPod nano.

Now with ALL of my massage music on the iPod, I chose the following settings:

- Shuffle Albums
- Repeat all

This plays the individual CD tracks in order as if being played in a regular CD player, but selects the next CD randomly from your whole collection. It's like having a 1,000,000 disc CD changer.

Somehow, it usually picks the right music for each session

I haven't noticed that because I haven't set my ipod to shuffle like that. I have some really neat compilations though. I can't live without the ipod now! LOVE IT!

You choose all the songs for your I-pod, now if someone else had chosen them---now THAT would be something interesting!!

I have noticed similar, though I shuffle the session play list, and the order that comes up is perfect 95% of the time. I have a few play lists depending on the type of session (relaxation, TCM, shiatsu, etc.). Each one I've tried on random, and the iPod is very intuitive

It keeps the music fresh for me and the client, and iTunes has quite a few selections for cheap. Also lately I've been experimenting with doing variable session lengths based on what the client needs, and having the client pay "what they feel it's worth". The client knows it could go as long as two hours, and as little as one hour. I've tried this with a few long time clients, with great results for both the client and me. So far the $ is higher than what the clocked sessions would have brought in. This is where having the iPod with a big play list helps, as there are no repeats, no CD change sounds, and one less thing to worry about.
