Queries from Louise tucker book - Ileo-ceacal valve/respiritory problems

Hi All,

Just about to take my Reflex exam on monday.

Have a few queries from Louise tucker book - maybe somebody can help??

Page 71 lists the Ileo-ceacal valve as an assosciated reflex for various respiritory disorders, includung sinusitis - any ideas why???

Also, for varicose veins (P64) intestines are lsited as an ass. reflex??

And P 65, for Hypertension, kidneys, head and brain are listed??

Any help would be appreciated, just trying to get my head around these!!

Hi there, I have just done my reflex exam and we really got ourselves tied up in knots over some of her associated reflexes!

We were told that her reasoning for the ileo-caecal valve in the respiratory valve would be to aid the elimination of waste i.e. mucous produced by the inflammation!?!

For varicose veins the reason for the intestines was to stimulate an efficient circulation therby preventing back flow in the veins.

Hypertension - kidneys treated to control the water balance in the blood which obviously effects the blood pressure. The kidneys are stimulated to do this by ADH (vasopressin) from the anterior lobe of the pituitary which is controlled by the hypothalamus (which does not exist according to Ms Tucker!!) - hence the brain reflex being mentioned. As you often get a headache if your blood pressure is high, the head reflex would be treated also.

It is all a bit of a stab in the dark to be honest, but just think it is only for the theory paper, when you do your practical you can go by whatever method you have been taught and when the examiner asks you for helper and associated reflexes for conditions (as she will!) you can say whatever you feel is right as long as you can justify them!!
