Question about Gift Certificate expirations...

Using a previously posted link to each individual states policy on gift cards, am I to take it that my states (Maine) expiration date last at least 2 years? Or is this something else entirely? I'm a bit confused..

I interpreted it that in Maine you cannot place an expiration date on a gift certificate and that if it is not redeemed, it must be turned into the State Treasury as abandoned property. However, it is not clear what time limit exists before "abandoned property" is so labeled.
