Question about pregnant client

A regular client asked if I could massage a pregnant lady who is going to the chiro regularly to keep her sacrum in place. The pressure from the baby is dislocating it and she is in major pain. How easily could it shift during massage?

How far along is she?? Isnt it somewhat normal for the sacrum to move during a pregnancy? All joints soften up because of pregnancy hormones. The joints between the pelvic bones need to soften up to make room for the baby. The sacrum is right down there too and I imagine it needs to move to allow the baby to pass through the birth canal. I am just going by memory here... I could be remembering wrong.

She's 7 1/2 months and has been having trouble for over a month.

The best thing to do is to make sure to work on her glutes, lateral rotators, and lower back muscles... Yes, this can be a potential problem and why a good amount of women experience sciatica during their pregnancy. Make sure that she continues to go to chiropractic after the birth, so that the sacrum cartilage doesn't harden in the wrong location, causing more problems.

I received massage and chiropractic during my entire pregnancy and had good results from both.

I was dealing with lax ligaments prior to pregnancy, so the relaxin was making it worse. I felt much better getting treatments and have no real issues now.

The shifting will all depend on what is really happening for her in that area. The structure itself, the muscles and how they are pulling/engaging, ect.
