Question about starting a career in massage therapy?

In July (I hope) I will be attending a massage therapy school in Washington state, but before I push the idea too far into my head, I need to know the requirements for becoming a massage therapist and how long the programs usually run. Just the basics on becoming a masseuse.

It's one of the newer fads to start these classes. You won't make much money as it is an overloaded career.

Most professional massage schools throughout the nation are going to require at least age 18 or 19, high school diploma or equivalent. Accredited schools may have financial aid available. Plan on 9-12 months of school, exam prep and completion of license. Washington state is a great place for massage therapy due to its acceptance with insurance companies. Cost of education & training will probably be upwards of $10g. The first step should be contacting the Washington State Board of Massage Therapy, where they will have the statutes, rules and regulations and the staff to help explain to you what is common practice toward licensure. They will probably not recommend a specific school since it could be favoritism by the state. But, they will have all the approved schools and any disciplinary actions on the schools. It could help narrow your search so you can contact 2-3 to start asking more questions. If you are planning to practice in a different state other than Washington, then it is imperative that you check with that state's requirements prior to going to school. i know a few girls who have recently graduated from a massage therapy school. i think they were in school for almost a year and had class 9-5, 5 days a week, plus had to do job clinics and stuff. of the 3 girls i know only 1 of them has a job now currently doing a massage, and its only part time at a salon. i agree with the other person who said this is a fad, i think it is something that people are interested in doing, but there arent many jobs available. so unless you want to waste money on school i would skip it. would you maybe want to look into a career as a physical therapist? it is kind of related to massage but it is alot more into the medical field. hope i helped some, good luck!
