In Japan, tipping is not a usual custom like it is in some other countries. The ladies here don't expect a tip and will even sometimes refuse it. There was a little controversy about whether or not we should tip or not. Some people believed that the girls would start expecting it as a usual thing.
In my opinion, I will tip in situations where it's easier than making change. If the service costs 27,000 yen, I'll just pay 30,000 and the girl gets a 3,000 yen tip.
