I recently landed a trial run with a chiro. I'm going in on Friday for my first day. I have never had any experience in this kind of a setting. I do love deep tissue and trigger point, but I'm not really sure what to expect on my first day, for the majority of my clients have been in for relaxation. The interview went well and I love the environment, the pay and the people, I guess I just have some jitters...kind of like it's my first day of school!
If anybody has worked in a chiropractors office and can tell me what I can maybe expect to be doing on a typical day, I would really appreciate it!! Thanks everybody! (i love this site)

I haven't worked for one, but I know a few who have. Their experiences cover a wide range, depending on the type of DC and the overall vibe of the practice. It can be great, or maybe not so great. Again, it just depends.

Many DCs have a lot of respect for MTs and our knowledge. They let MTs run pretty autonomously because they trust that we know our stuff. Others want to micromanage you and train you to treat their patients their way.

Sometimes, an MT's job is to loosen the patient's muscles before an adjustment so that the adjustment will last longer. There is absolutely merit to this. In this case, you'll probably work on each patient anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes. Other times, they will ask that you answer the phone and do other front desk work or light janitorial work on the side. And yet other times, the MT works pretty much on his/her own, more as an independent renter, and the MT and DC work as separate entities who happen to share space. Some clients are referred back and forth, while some aren't.

Average pay is anywhere from $20-30 per hour. Personally, I think this rate is fair when you consider that your rent is paid for and your clients are all referrals. I worked for that pay range at another facility (though similar setting with the massage supplies provided and the clientele referred to you) while I built my own clientele for my home practice. It was kind of a sweet deal at the time.

DCs are real doctors. If you work for/with the right DC and they are open with you and willing to share, you can learn a lot from them. And, don't forget that they might could learn a lot from you too!

It all depends. Is this your first job out of school? If so, that is not a bad pay rate. Will you be paid for all of the time you are expected to be at the office? If so, that is a decent pay - much more than if you are required to sit there all day and then only be paid IF you get work, and only for the time you are *working*. (I would never take a position like that, though many MT's do.) Do you have a contract, so that you know exactly what the situation is?

I'd go in with an open mind and see how it goes. If there is a contract, you have a safety net. If there is no contract, you have plenty to negotiate, and should feel free to do so. If the DC is reasonable and willing to give and take and make the situation work for both of you, it could end up being a great job, even if it is "just a starter job".
