If you are an American citizen, you can return with only your DL. They have a dedicated line for those that do not have passports, passcards, green cards, etc. and it can take awhile to get through that line.

A Sentri pass is without a doubt the best mongering investment you can make! I can not tell you how liberating it is to simply waltz up to the front of those lines and dance yourself across the border is under three minutes.

They are still not enforcing the passport requirement to come back to the states. You can come back using your driver's license and other documents but you are going to get them upset and they're going to give you a hard time. Just get your passport after all is a must in this hobby.

Ideally you have your passport or a passport card. However, once I forgot my passport many months ago, and I told the border agent so. I just showed him my driver's license, and he let me pass.
Now, if you don't have "official identification," you will have to line up towards the right line, and that will take more time.

Up until 2009, I used just a DL. Then I got me a Passport Card that's good for Mx and Ca foot traffic only.

Lately, I've been thinking about getting a Sentri Card because this seems to be much faster for re-entry in the US. But I've had run-ins with the law when I was younger and not sure if I'll be able to pass the screening. Anyone in a similar situation?
