Raffle Item: Donating a wellness basket

We have a fair every year, and I have been donating a therapeutic massage and wellness basket which I make.

This year I bought a beautiful fabric covered box with a lid (okay, so it's not a basket!), and included in it scented body lotion, herb tea, a tea pot with a cover that serves as the cup, a scented candle, a CD and, of course, two massage gift certificates.

The colors of the fabric are robins egg blue, white and a brownish olive color in a paisley print - very different, and the reason I liked it.

Presentation is everything, and this is where I fall short. I bought some coordinating tissue paper to place under the items, but does anyone have suggestions about putting it all together in a professional-appearing way?

It will be displayed in a local business store front on Main Street, along with the other items people are donating.

we have a mary kay lady in my bni group who packages everything in a fabric covered box like that. i think she uses the recycled bits of colored paper, arranges the items, then uses the top... gotta figure out how to wor dthis..


she leans the top against the back of the box with the pretty side facing out then covers with a plastic cellophane and ties a ribbon around it. she makes her men's products look quite masculine this way too.

I was thinking of the cellophane wrap as well, and I know it comes in colors, too. I may take a trip to Michael's to take a look at what they have.

The tissue paper I bought coordinates with the three colors in the box, so I wanted to place that under the "stuffing" part of the box, layer the tissue and then place the items on top. Whatever cellophane (if I go that route) I get should also coordinate with those colors, or maybe just the clear will look better?

Before trying Michael's, try your local dollar store. I frequently find rolls of cellophane there, coloured as well as clear. Just a thought.

oh i agree with the dollar store. they are perfect for those types of things. if i were you i would use clear. i think it will look the best. it will make what's inside stand out. if you use any other color i think it will take away from what's inside.
another suggestion is to not gather the cello at the top but secure it underneath. that way when people are looking into the package, they're not looking through a big gathered up wad of cello.

You could also cover small cardboard boxes with tissue that matches ... to create different lifts & levels to place your "merchandise" on if you need to fill the "basket" any.

I don't even know where there is a dollar store around here (sounds like a good resource, though).

I don't need to "fill" the box any more than it is, but I was thinking about wrapping the items I have in either white or robins egg blue paper and using a pretty silk ribbon to tie them.

I found out yesterday that the items for raffle will not be displayed anywhere as they have been in the past, so I could add a live plant - maybe an African Violet. Most gifts are picked up the day of the fair, or within the next day or two if winners are not present.

Wow, that basket sounds awesome!

I imagine one could put something like that together relatively inexpensively. My momma gets fabric remnants (some are bigger) on clearance at Hobby Lobby for ~$2/yd. Other good places, in case anyone has these nearby are: Garden Ridge (crafts at outlet prices), Dollar General, Big Lots, and, my friend, Amazon
