I recently spent the last week of my trip in Rawai and as I can not find much about Rawai bars on the forum I thought I would share a few of my favourite and not so favourite bars.
As I said in my newbie thread I was staying Karon to start with but was spending most of my days on Nai Harn beach then travelling back to Karon via a few Rawai bars.So here goes
On the road from Nai Harn to Rawai Beach my first port of call used to be,
Roxanne bar and Curry Shack. Nice friendly girls (especially one called Bee) and the best Indian curry I have had in Thailand. Happy hour2.00 till 7.00 all beers 50 bht Curry with rice or chips 100bht.Well worth it.
Just up the road is
Nancy bar(Nancy is a 6 foot tall Ladyboy).OK for a few early 50 bht beers and a very nice girl called Apple.
Next door is a small Thai restaurant owned by Ganya good cheap food.
Then on to beach road. I only tried 2 bars on this road
The Rainbow Bar and The Candy Bar. Both good bars with friendly girls.
The Candy Bar does not have a Happy Hour but does 60bht beers all day and night.
At the end of Beach Road is
The Freedom Bar. Not my cup of tea.Not very friendly and full of wannabe SAS types and no Happy Hour.
Across the road from the Freedom is a Bar I think is called The Dee Bar as the name was only on a blackboard which was washed off by rain.Anyway it's painted all blue even the floor.
When looking in from the road it seems to have quite a few girls but once inside turns out half are ladyboys.
I sat at the bar and eventually I was served and the lady( I did not say girl as they are all a bit past there sell by date)sat across the bar talking to me I notice she kept looking at a Thai guy over by the pool table.I think it must have been her boyfriend as he seemed to be glaring at me.
Checkbin please.
I left looking over my shoulder jumped on the bike and shot off.
Never felt uneasy in a bar like that before. Not a pleasant experience
5 mins later I was back in my comfort zone a group of bars on the main Rawai-Chalong road.
Dumped the bike at my bungalow and headed across the road to the
Jasmin Bar.Very Very nice girls with the added bonus of 3 of them were renting the bungalow next to me so I would get a knock on the door most days.Have Happy Hour
Next door is
The Asia Bar. Also friendly girls and Happy Hour.
Just around the corner is
The OK Bar.Also very nice girls(Lek and Apple especially)Happy hour.
I had a brilliant time in Rawai( apart from that Blue place) and will be back there the end of the year as there are loads more bars to explore
Getting pissed off thinking about it now so I'm off for a beer.
I also had a couple of nights out in Chalong and that is definitely worth another look when I come back
