Thanks for that Expatient,
I have had a disfunctional SI joint since I can remember and have been told my many 'learned people' that the SI joint does not move at all!!!! Well my pains tell me different!
I spent 8 months of last year in bed 'litterally' unable to even sit up at times to eat, my Husband had to care for me all of the time. Yet they still couldn't find out what it was. Evenwhen I told them what it was, I was told it wasn't possible! I spent many trips to doctors, surgeons, Chiropractors, Osteopaths, Physio's etc etc & I won't even mention the amount of money I spent on it all! Different painkillers, muscle relaxers, even2 epidurals! You name it, theygave it to me.The final straw came when I saw 'my last hope' a surgeon who was supposed to be a miracle worker???? After explaining my problem to him, he promptly offered me surgery to fuse my discs in my L5/S1 area (I have a small rupture) every doc I saw focused on this area as it was the only thing that showed up on an MRI! I told him I couldn't see how this would fix the problem of the Sacroilliac joint, he replied "Well there's nothing I can do about that" He wouldn't even acknowledge that it could cause my pain & instability. I left in tears thinking that that was how I had to live my life. I refused the surgery ( I certainly wasn't going to let them lose cutting my back open when they weren't even sure of the problem) and started my search for an alternative approach.
I am very nearly fixed now due to a number of things, firstly I found an fantastic Doctor/Osteopath who practises Prolotherapy. It's almost unheard of but for me it was amazing. Check out [link=http://www.drbrianpattinson.co.uk]www.drbrianpattinson.co.uk[/link] it involves injecting the ligament right into the joints to strenghten them. Once these ligaments become lax (as they do with us) they automatically want to go back to the position they are used to (being out of alignment), therefore you need an 'irritant' to stimulate them into action again. They can be quite expensive but when your in as much pain as we are you do it! Some insurance companies will pay for it as long as you don't tell them 'exactly' what the injections are as this is not an 'authorised' treatment like Acupunture etc. As he's also an osteopath he realigns you first to ensure the muscles are in the right position. I felt an immediate effect a few days after my first injection. I won't lie, it was very painful (for me anyway) and I did have a very odd reaction but I usually do but all of it was worth it! I was up and about within weeks, not fixed but out of bed and able to look after myself. I had a couple more injections and was 'very nearly' back to my old self. Once the pain goes, the depression & lack of energy goes too. It gave me my 'fight' back .
I was strong enough to start yoga (I had tred physio, exercises etc but couldn't keep my back stable long enough to feel an effect). I had a few sessions of Thai Yoga Massage to start me off. I had a fabulous teacher who treated me at home. This isn't a normal relaxing massage, it was almost like having physio but somebody holding & manipulating you the whole time so no pressure is on your joints or muscles. I am now strong enough to do real sessions.
Acupuncture is FANTASTIC at relieving pain!
I have more recently discovered a fantastic osteopath who has an amazing 'sense' & holistic approach. He actually realigns the WHOLE body to straighten any little imbalances that may (& usually do) happen in the rest of your spine. He also does a full check up, blood pressure etc to check for underlying illnesses, Ultra sound & acupuncture. All as a whole treatment. He told me he could fix me in 3/4 sessions and (although extremely sceptical at the time) I have to say he has! Here's his details for anyone who lives near Crawley. He's well worth the trip even if you don't .
