Here goes my 4th try at replying to this. Fingers crossed [&:].
Sorry the original question was a bit vague but no, the clients arteries weren't completely block or else I don't think she would have been sitting infront of me in the first place []. I shared the exact same concerns as you Jan and felt I could do with some advice on this from anyone with some experience of it, which is why I asked the question. Infact she had so many things wrong with her I had to stop my jaw from hitting the floor. I had to think fast I can tell you.
She was (is) suffering from atherosclerosis, hardening/narrowing of the carotid arteries, not Thrombosis which is different although I know the effects can be the same. This condition is being monitored and treat with drugs to thin out her blood but she has not had to undergo an endarterectomy. She is doing well on the medication but does have a history of slight strokes. I told her how important it was to give me her full medical history and gently explained about the contras. (I got the impression that she was holding back on something just to test me. Does anyone else get this happening?)She was happy to proceed and signed a form to say so. Although cautious I decided to give her a light treatment. I agree with Paul that a slight increase in blood circulation would help the blood flow to the brain. I realise that there is a risk of the hardened lining of the artery breaking off and doing damage but no more than if she raised her circulation by running for a bus. By the way she has quite an active job, on her feet most of the day.
By the way, she was holding back on something. She'd had an operation on one of here ears, and was having trouble with the other one which I picked up on in the treatment. Time for her jaw to hit the floor . Funnily enough though I didn't get any imbalance whist treating her neck area, mind you I was only barely going over those reflexes so maybe that's why.
She has not made another appointment, I left the ball in her court on that one but I would be grateful to anyone else for their view on this one as you never know when it might come up again.
