Reflexology after surgery

Hi,

I'm currently training and have just completed all my case studies - phew!

One of my case studies wants to continue the treatments and has asked for a treatment 2 days after surgery to help with his recovery.

Just wondered if anyone has any views on this - I'm assuming it's o.k to go ahead and treat?

Hi,

You need to consult your tutor with this one. Personally I think treatment should begin as soon as possible after surgery, but this does depend on the nature of the surgery and and which reflexology course you are taking. For instance my course was accredited by the AOR and they produce a list of contraindications and advice for guidance. Also, do you feel confident enough?

Thanks for your response.

I'm studying an AoR accredited course and have just checked the guidelines on contraindications and cautions to be exercised in reflexology.

The guidelines say that treatment can be very helpful once signed off or with permission from the surgeon. On that basis, I've contacted the client and agreed to treat him a week after the surgery, with agreement from his surgeon.
