Reflexology and Cancer Information

I know it has been mentioned can anyone point me in the direction of any good books that tackle cancer in a holistic way, and/or reflexology treatments.

As much as I would like to attend an appropriate course there doesnt seem to be anything going on locally.

The Foundation for Integrated Health has produced some guidelines (mainly for use in palliative care, but can be adapted for all cancer patients).

However the courses I've been on obviously go into a lot more detail on types of cancer, surgery, treatments, etc.

The cancerhelp site posted by JoJo above is more for the public than for therapists.

Is the Penny Price School too far? It's Hinckley way, perhaps a long drive, but depending where you are, might be wort a drive for a specialist course. I agree that the PFIH guidelines are worth reading as the Hospices and NHS look to these for initial guidance. The booklet is downloadable from the internet.

Hi all

looking into this myself and here's what i've come up with

Dr Peter Mackereth is one of the leading lights in clinical care/complementary therapy and he's written two great books both available on amazon about adapting treatments, one massage, one reflexology. He is based at christie hospital in manchester and the hospital organises many great courses...to be honest they sent me an itinerary and it was almost TOO much to take in but great to know it's there - are you close enough to attend???

do contact the hospice; i did and i've just been to talk to a really inspiring lady about becoming a volunteer offering hand or foot masages every other week. be warned, becoming a volunteer in heath care is a long and laboroious process and i can recall my tutor saying she'd just popped into her local hospice and got on with it...well, it's not like that round here...you will have to go for training/interviews/CRB checks etc...but if you are driven you will find a way. inevitably i hope this work will lead to a bit of pay somewhere down the line but not unduly upset if it doesn't...job's in the health service are rarer than hen's teeth.
