Reflexology and diabetes

This week I treated my first diabetic client. I am amazed that I hadn't had one sooner, and felt a bit rusty on my knowledge. The client was an elderly lady with other health problems (which I posted about elsewhere - http://www.healthypages.net/forum/tm.asp?m=58328) but after a consultation I was happy to treat. She brought her daughter with her who is also her carer and I asked them to take blood sugar readings before and after the treatment. The one before was a little high as she'd just had lunch (and eaten strawberries!). I did a very light treatment and the main reflex that showed up (even with light pressure) was the liver. I put this down to all the medication she was on, and I expected the reading to go down after the treatment if there was any change at all. However her reading went up by a couple of points and I'd be interested to hear others experiences with reflex and diabetes. Could it be that by working on the liver glycogen was relased into the bloodstream? (have I got that right?!)

Think I can help clarify a little.....after eating the blood sugar level rises very dramatically in a diabetic...the time to test is normally one and a half to two hours after the meal as it can take this long for the body to deal with the flood of carbs/sugars so if she came to you just after lunch and had also had fruit (which floods the system of a diabetic, oranges are the worst!) it could be by the time you had finished her she was still within this time and this would be her normal body response. Also as she was relaxing straight after the meal this slows everything down! Hope that makes sense....

Yes I thought the lunch may have had something do to with it and the daughter didn't seem too shocked either. Any ideas though on what the usual response to reflex would be (and the reason why we advise to test)? Increased or decreased blood sugar?

Hiya
I personally do not test for blood sugars during or after a treatment (unless they have just come from the gym).....your client should be aware when they are feeling a bit HYPO. symptoms you can spot to start is slight confusion and dizziness when getting up.....it is thought that regular treatments on diabetics for reflex will help reduce the need for medication....
