Reflexology and hip replacements

Hi,
I have a lady wanting Reflexology treatments but she has had both her hips replaced. My training stated not to work on anyone with any artificial implants as it could possibly cause rejection, and also some books state these as contra-indications, but then I read that other therapists do treat this condition. I would be grateful for anyone's advice or ideas on this and whether you think it would be ok to treat this lady and, if so, work on the hip area, or bypass that area altogether.

I have never heard of this and have worked on all sorts of people with various implants, including various joints, stents and pacemakers. As long as the person is fully recovered from the procedure, then all should be well.

I can't say I heard this before either and find it difficult to believe that reflexology could cause rejection of hip implants.

My Dad has had both his replaced and I worked on him, no problem, also 2 other hip reps and someone with a knee replacement. They all really benefitted from it. I've never heard of it as a contra, except in the immediate post operative period, as with most ops.

Just treat gently around the relevant reflexes in case they are tender.

It could seriously reduce the potential client pool as so many are done these days

I've never heard of this being a contra indication either - and I know that I'm one of the more conservative reflexologists when it comes to CI's on this site.
