Reflexology and ME!

I have recently qualified as a reflexologist and have been asked to treat aman with ME. Does anyone have any suggestions as the best areas to treat or any other hints and tips. He also has a slipped disc that is causing him a lot of pain so again if anyone has any suggestions they would be appreciated. Thanks Alison

Congratulations on qualifying in reflexology

My sister had ME and i worked a lot on the spine area of her feet to help sooth the Nervous system. I was taught that it is one of the best areas to work on for conditions such as ME as the nerves of the spine are conected to all the organs and thus every part of the body benifits.

Have you got Laura Normans book on Reflexology at all. at the back of it she mentions a list of conditions/aliments and reflex points to work on - its my bible

I have yet to have the opportunity to work with someone with ME but the advice from Catrina seems spot on. Other therapists who have worked with ME people have commented that they really need to protect themselves or they tend to feel exhausted afterwards. Obviously I can't substantiate this having never been in the situation, but maybe others here will comment?

well having Reflexology when I had ME was what got me started on the whole holistic path in the first place! I originally had Reflexology to help with Migraines ( part of the ME) but found that Reflexology got rid of the whole thing!!!!!!( yes that's right.... )

Since then I've treated ME clients with great success, work all areas, paying attention to the emotional and spiritual links too, would be my advice...... let us know how you get on!

Hi there,

I just wanted to give a more specific answer. In my course work, the following is how we weretought to treatME:

- Give a full but gentle overall treatment building up gradually over a period of at least six weeks
-In some cases afull treatment can be too draining so in these cases, gentle relaxation techniques will be sufficient
-Once you feel they are beginning to benefit from the treatments, you can pay particular attention to the spine, brain, spleen, liver, and digestivesystem.
