Reflexology Chairs

Hi everyone!

Yesterday I took delivery of a Lafuma Recliner Chair (goes virtually horizontal) to practise reflexology for mobile clients. I have seen many therapists using them when out and about but when I read the instruction booklet, it states that it is for relaxation purposes only. Does anyone else use them and if so, how would it affect my insurance? Is there a particular type of chair I should have purchased?

Sorry, but I am still fairly new to all this - qualified in June and am still trying to set myself up so that I am legal and proper!!! I really want to get it right and protect both my clients and myself.

Hi there, I've been using a Lafuma recliner for 4 years and haven't had any problems at all. I would guess that the "relaxation purposes" bit is more to protect Lafuma- using them for Reflexology clients there will be a lot more wear and tear on them just because it's being used every day and will be reclined and upright loads of times more than say someone just chilling in their garden (especially in this country!)

It is definatley stable and safe enough for Reflexology treatments - the only thing I would say is - pre warn people that they tip back quite far when you're reclining them (it's quite a funny sensation) You might want to check the maximum weight it can take as well as for regular use with over weight clients it might not be best.

ps: I especially like to have a wee 15 minute recline myself - just watch you don't nod off, they're really comfy!

I've always used a Lafuma (as have a lot of therapists). The only thing I would say about them is that if you're doing a treatment for someone in a room with a wooden floor, either make sure it's on a rug or hold the chair for the client when they sit down. They have a habit of sliding out sideways if you're not careful. Or is that just mine?

Thank you both, Finnie Feet and Ismorgan, I am really reassured by your comments. I must admit, I bought it because I have seen so many therapists using them and automatically assumed they were a trade product.

Thanks also for the comments about the wooden floor - I have laminate in my treatment room, so will definitely bear it in mind!

Do check the weight limit on you particular model - I had to turn some clients away when I was using the LaFuma exclusively. I found a company that made zero gravity recliners (think Lazy-Boy) that will hold twice the weight of the LaFuma and have had only one client to turn away with the new chair. You can't be mobile with my recliner though - it is an actual piece of furniture, wood, leather, a motor, the whole nine. So it may not be a good choice if you are a mobile practitioner.
