reflexology talks

Hi, i have been asked to do a talk on Reflexology for the womens instute and i have not done one before, does anyone know if i should charge if so how much?
also what do i cover??
any help would be great as i am really nervous

Hi Froggy,
I've done one or two of these. I suggest just a brief history of reflexology and an explanation with visual aids like a large foot chart. Then be sure to ask for a volunteer as people like to see it actually being done. They'll probably be queuing up to try after that... Good luck!

Hi froggy - interesting problem. Talk should not be difficult and some basic short treatments with warm up and say Rennee Tanners urgent care routine which is short should help. Perhaps a leaflet from the likes of FHT or similar will help explain the therapy. Not sure what to charge as a fee for talk (treatments free perhaps?) Something I was considering doing shortly as my mother is a member of the WI and will try and find some info when I am not busy working!

I did one of these talks at the local health centre: difficult as I had 3 GPs and 6 nurses in the audience!
Keep it short and use diagrams. Ask for a volunteer and draw the reflexology foot map on their feet in bright coloured washable pens, I had great fun and it lightened the atmosphere. Give it a go.

...always charge at least a nominal amount (£20 for an hour perhaps) otherwise people will think 'nothing' of you and you will think nothing of yourself. Charging a fee has a psychological impact on your performance.

This was how I got my first client all those years ago.

I did one of these last week - see post above on Fire station demo - it went fantastically well - and had an enquiry for a pamper party from one of the wives. I did mine for free and because of this there are other 'watches' that want me to return! It could mean potential business.
It was only 2 hours but we had fun -we made it fun - I gave out A3 posters of the hands and feet, they even photocopied them!I handed out IHM & ReflexologyFHT leaflets and also my postcards from Vistaprint went on their wall at their suggestions. How much you charge could be an hourly rate that you would normally charge - but I did it for Free.

I handed out posters for them all to look at. As it was fire station they watched all together to start with and then whilst I was doing a demonstration on reflexology they sat patiently but then once they were having individual treatments they went off and did their own food in the kitchen but still in view and able to watch and listen. Some had phonecalls to take etc. So on and off they were listening. Loads of questions were being asked and I worked on 4 people out of the 11 that were there. I played music and that was lovely to get them in the 'mood'. It just seemed to be 7pm and then all of a sudden it was 9pm!! It flew by.
I handed out leaflets at the end and talked about pamper parties and what was on offer to the hosts of these pamper parties. At the beginning I went into the origins of IHM and Reflexology and asked if anyone had received a treatment before and if they would like to share their experiences good or bad with the group. I asked people to come and have a look at tones of skin, etc. It was good to get them all involved. It was really good fun. You have to make it fun otherwise they will get bored.
