It may help to work on the kidneys. The kidneys produce a natural protein called erythropoietin, this protein stimulates bone marrow stem cells to produce red blood cells. It has been noted that erythropoietin (recombinant human erythropoietin) is theraputically administered to patients who develop anemia. Lack of this hormone erythropoietin is known to cause anemia. It has been know that the following drugs can cause anemia isoniazid, rifampin, dapsone, sulfonamides, nitrofurantoin, dilantin, phenobarbital, alcohol, penicillin, trimethoprim (Bactrim), zidovudine (AZT), ganciclovir (Cytovene), and amphotericin so it may be worth looking out for this. Lack of Intrinsic factor (a body protein required for adequate absorption of B12) can lead to a vitamin B12 deficiency. Without intrinsic factor, your body can not absorb vitamin B12 from the foods that you eat and eventually you may need vitamin B12. So it might be worth getting your client to look into the option of considering Vit B12 supplements.
