Repackaging products for resale....

Does anyone know if it is legal to buy a product (bath salts) in bulk, then repackage them (in jars) for resale? I can get some by the gallon but didn't know the legalities of doing it.

I have 4 weeks left in school and I'm trying to work out my options before I open my practice.

I personally know a shop sells soaps, lotions, bath things, etc... in my city that does this. I dont know why I couldnt if I wanted to. But I am not sure what the law is in your area concerning this.

Off th top of my head, I would think it would be okay because it is not a food product.

I relabel gift items, mostly candles, but don't sell them. I don't know why you couldn't, though.

from what i am aware of, it IS OK to repackage and relabel bath and body stuff, but the label must include ingredients with their INCI names.

What did you ever find out about this? Did you do it and how did it work out for you? I've thought about this too as a way to make a little extra money while in school. I've got a friend who owns a beauty salon and I'm sure she would allow me to put the products in her shop. I've also thought about just making my own to sell. I was just wondering what your experience was with this.

I can see putting a label on the bath and body stuff that says the business name of where they got it, but I would not want to "relabel" it as if it were my own product. Legally I am not sure there is a difference, but if someone took the stuff home, used it and had a horrible experience like chemical reaction (and I thinking more along the lines of soap/lotion stuff) what do you have in place to protect yourself? If it's your label on there acting like it's your very own product line or something then you might be in trouble if you don't have the proper insurance. I might be reading way more into this aspect of retail sales.

Does anyone know if there is a difference between sticking your business info label on the product and sticking your "label" on it like it's yours? That part does kind of seem illegal. Like tearing the label off of some pants and sticking my own label in there instead and selling them. Is that what this is saying?

Actually, I've decided to make my own bath n body products. I make MP soaps already so I will make the lotion, bath salts, body scrubs, body spray and body wash to sell my own product in my office. Right now I'm buying my supplies.

There are a couple spa companies that make things like salt glo's, lotions, etc. and will package them with your company name on them. I will have to look them up and when I find the web address, I'll post it.
