You are doing absolutely nothing wrong by walking into any business's alley entrance; although it may seem awkward; the LE presence is do in part to the random violence going on downtown, and also routine patrols. I have never ran into anyone during the daytime around noon.

Used to live in a loft downtown a block from there when I was married. When things were going south, and I knew my wife was cheating, I left one evening to walk down to "a bar".
