just read on thai expat forums that some of the bars along beach road where continuing to open and that a mob of thais had forced them to shut up shop.even saying that one guy had a pistol and was waving it around.is this true?seems a bit stupid for bars to be open when 99% are closed,surely they are asking for trouble.
also said there was a rally in phuket town and that the governor pulled the plug on it.seems like there could be more trouble ahead.

There are a few places that have ignored the strike (not naming them) that are out of the way... Many hotels are still serving in hotel bars...

I cant confirm the pistol part of the story but can confirm strife around the Sailor bar / Moon bar soi this afternoon on beach Rd..

As to asking for trouble, well its how you interpret it.. rights to do as you wish v the views of the group etc.. Its a debate that has both sides, though with what looks like some success coming it seems holding out a day or so is smart.

Just be nice to see the main orgainizers like the soi owners and important Thais waive thier rent for the duration of the strike.. Otherwise its the rich and powerful asking the poorer bar managers and renters to take the losses and not pass any on.

The organizers on the football field is actually asking people on the speakers to tell them if somebody see a bar that is open.

I cant confirm it was the Sailor bar... It was near the entrance to the Soi of the Sailor bar / Moon Bar / Paddy's Bar etc soi... My main girl works in a travel agent down there.

Her story is that she did not want to get too close as it was getting out of hand and rowdy.. 'A' Bar had opened up (cant confirm name of it) and Tuk Tuks and Thais turned up and told them to close.. They resisted for a while and it then started to look like it was going to be violent as many more people quickly arrived. After some negotiation it was then closed. Written in this thread is a rumor that one of the people who came to close them was carrying a pistol ?? I cant confirm any of this more than I have stated.

There was also a bar (not to be named) on Bangla, that opened yesterday. But soon closed after the arrival of about 50 or so.

Eh .. hi Guy´s .. english is not my first language but if i understand this right there is a BAR STRIKE in Phuket???
Do thai people ask bar owners to keep close ??

That must be the end of Phuket i gue´s even if you can buy your beer at the local store and chase the girls down the street instead of the bars

The main strike breaker SCABS are the Tuk Tuk drivers, most of them have ignored the strike, also the outdoor restaurants on Rat-U-Tit and behind Tiger and some massage parlours
