Seated Massage Videos

Could anyone recommend a good seated massage video? Seated/corporate massage was not covered in the course I did, but it's something I would like to learn. How does Raymond Blaylock's 'Seated Massage Techniques' compare with the 3 seated therapeutic massage videos by Ralph Stephens? If I want to become proficient in the various techniques used in chair massage, is it necessary to buy all 4 videos, or will Blaylock's video be sufficient? Thanks!

I have not seen Blaylock or Stephens' videos but I have one from Connie Scholl (sp?) which shows a 10 minute routine.  Its rather basic (technique to chair set up etc.).  Its a VHS and I think it runs around 30 mins. I believe I bought it on ebay.

I haven't seen the Blaylock videos but I have the Ralph Stevens set.  They are very thorough.  Really shows a lot of specific techniques.  It's far more than just your 10 minute teaser in the chair.  I don't do a lot of chair massage (I thought I was going to be doing more when I bought them).  I do have a chair massage event coming up for golfers and I am going to be reviewing some more of the shoulder techniques.  I have loaned them to a few friends and they have all been impressed.

I think you'd be better off with the Blaylock video, since you're just starting to do seated massage.  It's easy to learn and integrate the routine he teaches, and then you'll have a starting point.  If you find that you really love doing seated massage, then you can invest in the Stephens set to further develop your technique...or maybe even get together with a few colleagues who do seated massage, and three different people can  each buy one Stephens video, and you can all watch them toegether and practice on each other.  That's my two cents worth!

Seated Massage Videos

I may have posted this message in another related discussion re: DVD's for chair massage. I think that our "partner chair massage program" is great for large groups, workshops, conferences, etc. I have introduced this program to very large groups--350 and with support groups that may be smaller. Everyone leaves the session feeling good about touch and learning how to make an empathic connection with another person.

This program comes with some research studies that we did with Alzheimer and Diabetic groups here in New Mexico health clinics. The results are published in journals and in book on Multicultural Issues and Health Programs.

I would love to receive some critiques from chair massage enthusiasts. This program uses a variety of techniques that don't require licensing of participants to give the "stressout"--eg. brushing, acupressure, stroking, feathering. I also include basic "Guidelines for the Safe use of Touch" that protect the giver, receiver and sponsoring agency or program.

As a tool for stress management, this program has been widely used with the military and their families for the past 20 years. See website for details.

Peco,Any specifics on why the Blaylock video sucks?  I've been considering purchasing it but after seeing your last comment, now I'm not so sure.  More details would be helpful for me to make my final decision.Many thanks!

The video is made by Touch 4 Productions and is called The seated massage technique videoIt´s blue and white and shows Raymond doing the chairmassage on a woman wearing a muscle suit.The video comes with CEU´s too LOL.If he can make a video as bad as this I suggest that you don´t buy any of his videos.Peco

Sorry, forgot to mention why it´s not worth buying!This is simply because there´s nothing to learn.The techniques shown are foolish, even a newbie in the massageworld have more skills than the things Raymond shows.I did look at this video for a while before buying it and because you also can get CEU´s (not because I need them, I´m from Europe so the are not of any use here) I thought the video would be high standard. NOT!!!!!!If I gave people a treatment like the one Raymond shows, people would NEVER show up for a 2nd appointment, period.Hope this could help you Peco
