Lake in the Hills village officials have revoked the license for a massage parlor in town less than a month after it opened.

Mo Massage, at 61 Polaris Drive, is the second massage parlor to lose its license at that location. The business began operating Feb. 15 and its license was revoked March 9 for an advertising violation, according to a village news release.


In 2015 the village adopted an ordinance limiting specific types of licensing, regulating hygienic issues and advertising. It also adopted a zero-tolerance policy toward massage parlors promoting illicit activities.

Per the ordinance's advertising restrictions, massage parlors are prohibited from depicting, placing, publishing or distributing any advertising materials suggesting services other than those legally permitted, or showing employees or massage therapists dressed in any manner other than permitted by village code.

Lake in the Hills police public information officer Amanda Schmitt said Mo Massage violated advertising restrictions by distributing materials that were erotically suggestive and illicit. The business owner will not be allowed to appeal the denial, she said.

Last September, Magic Spa, the previous tenant, had its license denied for violating advertising restrictions. The business owner appealed the denial, which was upheld.
