So one of my clients posted on Facebook today that they had a great massage with me today!! That was so awesome!! And then I read down in the comments and another massage therapist wrote, "You should come and see me for an even better massage!" Seriously?? I so wanted to write back and be snarky. But I didn't. *sigh* When will people learn not to poach other massage therapists clients?? It's just not nice!

So this client has at least 2 MT's as friends on FB. Who did they go see today? Who did they brag about? Will they have friends that ask who gave them that awesome massage? Probably. That should tell you enough right there.

And....therapists who brag aren't good therapists (in my experience). I once went to a therapist and she was working in a tight area, to which I commented that felt good (b/c her massage was pokey and I wanted her to stay there for a few minutes at least) and her reply was, "oh yeah, they call me Jane 'find the tight spots' Jones. (First and last name changed)

Maybe you could post back, "oh great, I'll be scheduling an appointment with you then!" (ha ha! no, don't do that, I couldn't help but write that!)

That's not even just with therapists in particular, most people brag b/c they need to, in order to get people to believe them as they don't believe in themselves.

I have to agree with that - the MT's that tell others how wonderful they are are often inexperienced with minimal skills.
I don't know if they REALLY think that they are hot stuff or deep down know they aren't yet and WISH it were so.
The experienced, skillful MT's never make it about themselves.

I look at it this way - that other therapist was rude and I'm sure we're not the only ones to see that. In the end, it bites her in the butt for being rude in public.

The other thing though, is about "poaching". Are you really concerned about that? I look at it this way - if a client is seeing me, then for whatever reason sees another therapist and decides to continue to see them instead of me, then it's not because the other therapist "stole" them in some fashion, but because the client decided the other therapist was meeting their needs in a way that I wasn't (be it through massage, location, financial, whatever.) I offer the best service I can for my clients. If what I offer isn't what they need to keep them coming to me, then I need to take a look at myself - if I dropped the ball somewhere I need to step it up, but if I am doing my best... then I need to accept that the other person was a better match.

Overall though in this situation, I wouldn't sweat it. You took the high road by not snapping back. As is, this person drew attention to themselves in a not so positive manner.

I fail to see what the purpose of your remark is? It does nothing to further the topic of this thread and FWIW the OP is an employer herself, not an employee. I see no relation at all between what has been posted in this thread and your disparaging remark.

I agree that it was a rude comment to make. Quite obviously your client got what she wanted and needed and said so - to disagree by declaring she could have gotten a *better* massage is absurd.

On the positive side, it's nice for you that you have a good client who is out there happy and sharing her positive experience with her friends!

No one own's anyone as a customer/client/patient. The consumer is FREE to go wherever they choose to go.
As for the "employers,ever stop and think that maybe just maybe that client comes back sometimes because of the MT,not just the business itself? After all its the overall experience the consumer is after and that one key ingredient is OMG...the person ACTUALLY doing the massage.

LOL, massage can be a very competitive field! I do wish therapists were less cutthroat against each other! I always think it is funny when someone tries to "steal" a client away. I feel like there are always more clients that can be introduced to massage, we should concentrate on cultivating new clientele on the benefits of massage. If someone is trying to poach your clients they may be jealous of your success and are emulating you, but in a negative way. I always feel that if the client wants to see someone else, that is their prerogative, but hopefully it isn't because they don't enjoy my massages! Maybe they just need something different.

My point is, MTs all seem to get bent out of shape when a fellow MT poaches a client, but there is not the same level of indignation when the discussion is about contacting clients encountered during the course of employment.

The whole poaching clients from work is a touchy subject.. But even as an employer there are things you can do to keep your staff happy and willing to stay with you. (Now I've never employed anyone to do massage, and when I had my own business I rented a space).

But in my humble opinion, I would be willing to stay with a company that:

a) Paid me decently
b) Offered health care, and full or partial CE classes.
c) Was willing to increase their rates along with my rate of knowleadge
d) was willing to help me advertise or promote a charity or cause
e) Valued ME, as a person, a co worker, and a therapist

I think when people feel undervalued, unmotivated, uninspired, and poor, bad things are bound to happen!
But by helping therapists build their clientele you are only helping your business as well, even if they eventually leave (which if you treat them well hopefully won't be for a long time!) And of course if you have a healthy a friendly business relationship I doubt they will steal your clients and try to saboeforum.xxxe ya! LOL.

Take it you have never seen a post on here when Relax and Rejuvenate are hiring in the areas they do business?
While I don't agree with a lot of things they say on here.Total business wise though,they offer you plenty and they seem like an awesome company to work for.Check them out and see if they are in your area or maybe someone you know might be.
