severe back pain & sickness after IHM

I am doing an IHM course at present and am very concerned. After my first full treatment I had sever upper back pain for 2 days. I had a 2nd ttreatment last week and was in absolute AGONY!!! with my back and around my rib cage, to the extent taht I couldn't sleep and was awake the whole of the 1st night feeling extremely sick. The severe pain lasted about 3 days. Can anyone enlighten me on this? I am seriously considering giveing up the course as I feel that no one would come back for a treatment if they felt this bad and also worry about what damage may be being caused? Ideas much appreciated!! I spoke to my tutor and she says try having a different student do it, but Idid havea different student both times. She said she will use me to demonstrate on this week if there are odd numbers. BUt I am so concerned it will happen again. I couldn't stand the pain.

Were you in pain whilst being treated? If so, did you tell the student/therapist? Did you ask the tutor to demonstrate technique and pressure to check they were doing it right? Are you normally sensitive to any form of bodywork?

I had no pain during treatment. It started that night. Mentioned to tutor and all she could suggest was it was possibly my posture while having treatment and the sickness was a healing crisis. the healing crisi i can deal with, but not the pain. Nos she has never checked the pressure. I am a bit concerned that I could do some harm on someone if I do this routine. ( we do it in a seated position sittimng upright, as she feels that leaning over with shoulders raised is not a natural position and damaging to your posture?

The only time I have had a client who had back pain afterwards, was someone who had had a bad car crash a few years ago and who often had a lot of pain and problems with her spine. She kept trying different treatments to see what would help, which is why she came to see me.

You should not be getting pain like that. Are they being gentle or trying to give you a deeper massage? If they need to practise on you, then the students could do the moves very lightly, including on the head in case the problem is related to your neck. If someone came to me and had pain like that afterwards, I would suggest they see a chiropracter. If it is a healing reaction, there may be more problems that need to be sorted out.
If you were just feeling sick, it could be that therewas a bit ofpressure on your internal organs, or that the pain made you feel sick. Unless you have a lot of toxins in your body and the sickness was related to their removal.

I'm studying IHM at college too. We are practising on each other, now had 2 sessions and after each one felt terrible. The last treatment I had on thursday I felt fine on the night other than thirsty and hungry. I woke up with a terrible headache, feeling quite unwell and I didn't go to work, I felt that unwell & exhausted! Things are very stressful at the moment so I guess it's to be expected, but I am at the point of not having them in return to be honest. I felt horrible on friday!

I vaguely remeber the same thing happening when I studied reflex. Perhaps I'm sensitive to receiving these therapies myself?

I just thought I'd let you know you wasn't alone in feelingunwell after a therapy.
