Sharing my massage room?

Hi, everyone:I'm a massageplanet newbie, and I've found some great information here so far, so I would like to ask you all for advice!I'm renting my massage room at a great facility (flat rent fee per month), and today I was presented with the possibility of sharing my room with a recent graduate -- what was suggested is charging him 25% of each massage he does there as "rent". The decision is totally up to me.I guess the biggest questions I have are: does anyone else share their space, would you recommend it, what are the headaches involved, what is the best workaround you've been able to come up with? Right now my work hours are whenever I have an appointment -- I have a key to the facility and I come & go as I please. So limiting my time is a potential problem...The upside, of course, would be help in paying my rent. I would just appreciate anyone's comments, suggestions, etc.Thank you all!Andrea

Andrea,I rent out my massage rooms at an hourly rate. This way I don't have to deal with any trust issues. If you do a perceneforum.xxxe, then you have to know how much your renter charges. What if your renter's client cancels, or doesn't show up? If he/she insn't getting income, do you get paid? I rent rooms at $20 per hour (real estate is sky high in NYC), this includes linens, oils, music, the whole nine. The renter calls, books the room, and I know that room isn't available for that hour. I have a 12 hour cancellation policy with L.M.T.'s, but a 24 hour policy with clients. But if I can rebook the room with a client or another L.M.T., I don't charge the therapist. I feel this is fair and it works well for me.

Thanks, CalicoComfort --That gives me a lot to think about. I do know how much he would be charging, and I was wondering about the cancellation policies... most of me at this point is just not willing to hassle with it, but I also want to help out a new therapist. {sigh} I'll let you know what I decide.Thanks again --Andrea

As Mimi said, "provided they put things back." آ Would they have to change the table height? آ Would they be responsible with laundry, closing windows, locking up, blowing out candles, shutting off halogen lamps? Maybe you could negotiate a trial basis. آ If someone wants to book during their time, can you schedule for later or will you lose income? آ Do they have insurance? آ I have shared a room in the past and it worked out. I have tried to share my room and it didn't. آ When someone shows you who they are, believe them (Iyanla Vanzant?).   YogaLMT, what has happened in the last year? Did you end up sharing?

I share a room with an acupuncturist. She works on Mondays just for a couple hours. I'm here 5 days a week, full-time. What bugs me is that she leaves these little plastic things from her acupuncture appointments. She also will leave the tissue-paper sheet on my table. I took my table home to do housecalls, and have put her table in the room. I guess I can't complain too much as I am using her table. But, geez! :shock:

I started out sharing a space with another therapist, and it lasted 2 years before she moved on (and out) and I took over the lease full time. I hate having to pay 100% of the rent but I LOVE having the office 100% of the time. We used different tables so every week I had to haul my table in and out, and there were just a lot of conflicts. I was recently approached by a friend who was interested in it one day a week but that fell through, a blessing in disguise I think. Make sure you are clear with what is expected, put things in writing and do a thorough interview!
