Should I ask her if she wants to get a massage?

Anyways, so I call her on Tuesday, asking how she was. I guess she wasn't having that great of a day. After a few minutes, she was full blown crying. We talked for an hour, and I tried to be there. She texted me the next day, but I didn't call right away, which being that she was still depressed made her more sad. So I told me I would call in sick, and take her to a spa the next day, and make it her day. She was pretty excited. I go to pick her up, and she's crying at the doorsteps...apparently her friend was recently downgraded in the hospital, and put on life support. We obviously canceled on hanging out; she said she was going to the hospital, and would call me later if she had time.

She never did though...I am wondering if I should call her this afternoon? And if I should ask her if she still wants to go to the spa? Or would that be insensitive to the situation?

No, you shouldn't call her. Wait to see if she calls you. You might consider sending her a small (inexpensive) bouqet of flowers with a note that says "Thinking of you - know that I'm here if you need me."

Hold off on the spa, a nice gesture to be sure. I would have offered to go with her to help in any way I could.

How many days has it been since she said she would call? Possibly something serious has happened to her friend, maybe she has not left their bedside, or maybe they passed away. If and when she needs someone to talk it out with, I'm sure she will call you. For the time being, I would just hang in there and wait, or follow the other posters advice and send flowers.

No I wouldn't call her if I were you. If you call her it would be as if you are ignoring the current situation and are only thinking about the massage and not her feelings. Let her call you, when she does, you will know she is ready.
