should i go to bangkok?

Ive booked a holiday in november. im going to phuket and koh samui and koh phangan. my flights r direct from australia to phuket... im just wondering should i really be going to bangkok also? or doesnt it really matter?!

Bangkok is a lot different that those places you've booked. All these places you mentioned are beach resorts. If you just want to go to beaches that is perhaps less cold than in Melbourne, those are the place. They are tropical beaches.
Bangkok is a big city, bigger comparing to Australian ones. It's messy, dirty, traffic jams, polluted, noisy, and all who have visited love it.
It's just a vibrating, exciting city without even have to try. You decide.

I think it is somewhere you should go at least once in your life. Its something different. It can be quite scary at first but once ur used to the environment it becomes an awesome place to visit, although once is enough if you prefer beach holidays.

Travel and Leisure magazine has rated Bangkok as the #1 city in the world for tourists the last three years in a row, which considering the source, says a lot. I live in Bangkok and I wouldn't rate it the best city in the entire world, but it's certainly worth a visit. I suppose you could compare it to going to Australia and not visiting Sydney.

It is your vacation - it sounds like you prefer beaches - there is no "should" - only what you think you will like.

It is a world class metropolitan city with many things you won't find anywhere else in the world. But if you're not into urbanity and prefer the beach life on your vacation then just stay on the islands.

Bangkok is fine for now. The recent peaceful election and change to a new government has gone very well and no more political problems are expected there. It's got some of the best shopping in Asia from what I read. I think you should go there and see. It's also got some pretty good tourist attractions.
