I had three cats but two of them have passed away this year.
Rumpleteaser a 19 year old female passed away in January. She was the dominant cat and was kind of aloof to the other two.
The boys, Sunshine and Mephie were good buddies and always slept together. Sunshine, a 15 year old persian, was diagnosed with diabetes in February and passed away in April.
Mephie age 13 has always been a bit neurotic. He doesn't do well with change or by himself so when Sunshine was diagnosed I introduced Valentine to the mix. He is a 1 year old male. Sunshine took over the dominant cat roll without a problem until he passed and then Valentine became the dominant cat. Mephie has never been the dominant cat type.
Lately, Valentine has been a bit of a bully, chasing Mephie off his favorite chair and taking his place or running to grab cat toys from him. I was wondering if a third, younger cat might be a good playmate/distraction for Valentine so he will leave Mephie alone or if I might end up with a worse situation where two younger cats are ganging up on my poor old boy.
There's no aggression between the two cats. When Valentine approaches and tries to climb in the chair or to take a toy, Mephie ignores him for a few minutes and then he leaves. They are both long tall cats but Valentine has about 10 pounds on Mephie.
Any thoughts? Thanks for the input.
All of my cats are/were fixed.
