...constant medical care or medication? in the uk we have an ageing population that that are not profitable nor cost effective to maintain, in fact they are a drain on the countries finances. the uk has a falling population of "british" nationals to pay for its day to day running expenses of the country, and care for the weak and elderly if expensive. if we applied true market forces their medical, treatment bills would be prohibitive. should the young be burdoned the the elderly or sick, who are in fact strangers to them, why should they help them. it is a dog eat dog world isnt it?

I'm with dory, we are all paid up members of the over 60s, when you have worked all your life and paid your dues we are entitled to medical help. Why don't you have a rant about the druggies who queue up for their methadone and haven't done any work , get a life and leave us to enjoy whats left of ours

You make a generalisation with little thought. I am well over 60 and although not working, still pay tax on my pension. I am in good health and so am not a drain on the NHS, and for anything major that might go wrong I have private medical insurance. I own my home without a mortgage (paid off a few years ago) and so fail to see how "the young" are burdened. I am not alone in my circumstances either. I come from a generation that planned for the future, saved, and took independent action to protect me and my family from financial penury.I suggest that those who burden the young, and the State, are those who do not work even though they are capable and want the State to look after their every need.

Well seeing as most of us have worked for many years and paid national insurance, we have actually paid for what we are entitled to. Now can the same be said for the young? How about all the binge drinkers that fill up A&E, have they paid 45years of contributions?
