Many thanks to you both! I am asking for myself actually. Also is good to know for folks that I will be practicing on during training and then for national certification.
I'm a licensed massage therapist and Reiki practitioner by profession, and have been in practice for 10 years. I completely understand the healing crises and therefore would not recommend weekly 60 min massage therapy sessions to someone who had not received previously. It can be overwhelming to the system.
Although I have received many types of bodywork for years, even before my formal education - massage, reflexology, chiropractic, polarity, reiki, shiatsu, acupuncture, myofascial - I feel like one reflexology session each week for the past 4 weeks has been too much. I had scheduled them this way for research on my part while I was contemplating which program to enroll in. So each session was given by 4 different practitioners. Two were given by reflexologists, who coincidentally graduated from the same school. The other two were given by massage therapists with different reflexology training.
After the first session (massage therapist/getting her cert in reflex), I felt VERY clear. After the second (reflexologist), I felt a bit more detox happening as well as an improvement in my menstrual cycle. After the third (reflexologist), I'm not positive what to make of that...more detox, I guess (she did spend quite a bit of time on the lymphatics). After the fourth (massage therapist w/reflex training) felt like my feet and body had had enough (although during the treatment all was well)!
My feet, ankles, and wrists have been swelling like crazy. This is not usual for me. But it's been hot & humid here, so it could very well just be that.
Not sure if I needed to go into that much detail, but maybe that will help clarify my original query a bit more.
Thanks again.
P.S. On a more positive note - my dreams have been very vivid, lots of hawk and falcon close encounters, each session has also been a confirmation that I am exactly where I need to be and that reflexology is calling to me loudly, etc.
And, I agree RP in regard to what the service industry expects. I can work out the kinks in 15-20 min, an hour or more is not necessary...but that's what clients expect for their money. I do educate every chance I get though. I also agree that each reflexology session was paving or clearing the way for the next.
