Socks on?!

Found this article today about an American reflexologist:

It seemed fairly ordinary until I read the quote near the end - "You can even keep your socks on if you wish!" I've never given a treatment like that! Has anyone else, or had a client who wanted one?!

How odd, the notion of anyone keeping their socks or even tights on? You would slide around all over the place and lose all the sensitivity of skin to skin contact. Mind you, there are those who say that the use of creams, powders etc can get in the way of that contact. Vive la difference!

I have a client I have been doing for approximately a year now, who wont take her tights off!! She had a very severe stroke about 5 years ago, and wears the tights to help stop thrombosis. They are very elasticated, so are firm to the touch.

At first I wasn't very confidant, but I realised she was uncomfortable taking them off! I was training at the time, and I spoke to my tutor about his. She said to carry on, and working over tights should not be a problem. I have to say that I have become used to doing her, and for me it isn't a problem at all. She has become a friend, and I now do her every other week, but I dont charge.

When I first started she had no feeling in that foot at all. She now feels my touch, and some of the relaxing strokes tickle her! Her foot used to be quite stiff, but not it is malleable, and I can feel crystals and 'popping'!

I think we work with what we have, and for this lady taking off her tights would be an experience, and she doesnt need that. The benefit to the client can still be made through the socks or tights, as long as they are not loose and sliding all over the foot! Try it! Its actually not that bad!!
