the next time i am going to los is about aug-sep and this time i am thinking about going to chang mai and chang rai,could you tell me the plus and the down points about these two places.i have heard that chang mai has the most beutiful ladies in thailand???

Ain't that a fact.

Most of the best looking Chiang Mai girls are in Bangkok making their money.

Chiang mai itself is a nice city, was there a few months ago, and it was a pleasure as always, the Lanna style architecture on the temples is quite interesting, they have over half the number of temples as Bangkok in Chaing Mai city alone.

Doi Suthep is a nice trip, and if seen in good light is quite stunning. They have a copy of Pha Kaew Morokot there, recently donated by Nay Ratchamontri Thaksin Shinawatra. However a lot of the more interesting temples are getting on a bit. The consort of Rama V King Chulalongkorn is buried at the 14th Century Wat Suan Dok. Nice to visit, but not muck 'Wow' factor. Huge ubosot though. Wat Phra Singh has a ols Sinhalese buddah of interest, Wat Chedi Luang is old, and in the 15th Century had an 86m high chedi. Tis but ruins now. Wat Jed Yot is also ruins (built for the 8th World Buddhist Council in 1477 (check the year)).

Some good restaurants in Chiang Mai, but nothing to go there specially for. handicrafts are nice, but again available on Sukhumvit

It depends what you are looking for of course. If it's fun of the wild type, don't bother, much better places to go.

how about in the way of nightlife,are there good bars and discos there or is it a bit quiet up there?i am planning on staying up there for about 4 days is that to long or short??

There are bars for sure and disco's, but I haven't investigated much on account of the fact that I wasn't really that interested. I've been to them in the past and they were boring, can't even remember where most of them are. If you are only going for nightlife you may find 4 days too long.

There are some Chiang Mai websites, try them, I'm the culture vulture around here.

It's got mountains to keep you happy, but no slag heaps.

was in chang mai a couple of years ago,nice to visit the city and temples etc,wether was like a good English summers day ,but as for the night life scene i thought it was very limited .i would say no more than three days at the most there.

If you really want to see a bit of 'real' Thailand, then you should visit Chiang Mai.

Chiang Mai is about half way between Bangkok and the Northernmost tip of Thailand.

It is a large city with crazy traffic!!

But..........

If you head north out of the city, the scenery is beautiful. Big mountains, elephants, rice fields etc..

I had a couple of brilliant days in Chiang Mai.

It was cloudy, and it did rain a lot.

I stayed in a hotel called the Pingporn Hotel. 700 baht for en-suite room. Very big. A bit old, but OK. Had 2 discos beneath it.
One was full of toourists and a couple of bar girls, the other was full of Thais having a night out.

If you can, hire 4 wheels instead of 2.

Chiang Mai isnt a Bar Girl town, although they do have them.

I used to get a girl to massage me at 2am in my room.
