Spa Week offers customers discounted massage treatments - Washington Times

Two of the grandest words, Spa Week, are about to make October more about revitalizing bodies than shoveling them full of candy. From Oct. 17-23 dozens of retailers around the country are offering special deals on full-service premium treatments, normally priced between $100 and $500, for $50 each.

“Taking care of your body today will slow down the aging clock of tomorrow,” Spa Week founder Cheryl Reid said in a statement. “Incorporating spa and wellness practices into your daily regimen will preserve your mental and spiritual well-being, help maintain your youthful appearance, aid in managing your stress levels, improve your energy and enhance your life.”

Spa Week has spread the evangel of such wellness for over a decade.

“This results-driven wellness approach has created a higher consumer demand for attainable spa and wellness services for the masses,” Ms. Reid said.

Many spas around the DMV are offering Spa Week packages, including the recently opened Woodhouse Day Spa in North Bethesda, Maryland. Owner Peter Dychkewich took The Washington Times on a tour of his 6,000-square-foot facility, which features several treatment rooms — including one for couples — a quiet room for pre- and post-treatment relaxing and gender-segregated changing rooms. It’s a spacious, well-apportioned business, with open hallways and genuine mahogany doors (yes, they’re heavy).

During the course of an hour-plus combination deep tissue and hot stone pampering, a talented therapist named Erika tended to my many aches, pains and injuries accrued over a lifetime of, well, working. It was my first try at hot stones, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but the heated rocks helped to ease tightened surface tension as Erika worked the deep aches in the musculature far below. The hot rocks weren’t precisely my favorite treatment — sometimes the heat seemed more alarming than relaxing — but it was great to give it a shot, and Erika did a fine job of combining the stone work with her thoroughly capable deep tissue work to leave me completely relaxed by the end. A quick cup of tea in the relaxing room and I was ready to face my day — I mean desk.
