special needs

Hi, i am a quilified reflexologist, but i am thinking about voultering my sevices or doing a special offer for nersing homes or places like that, but i have never done anyone that fits in that catagory, would i need special traning? or does anyone have any advise for me?
anything would be great.

I'm still training but as far as we've been told and from my experience working with these client groups is fine as long as you are aware of any medication they are on and health conditions so as to be aware of contra-indications, which may mean talking with carers if the client cannot clearly communicate.
As one of my case studies I am working with a woman who is deafblind with Usher, but I have the advantage of knowing sign language so I can communicate directly with her. I have also used the relaxation techniques on more severely disabled people who have no formal communication methods with good results. Very good for helping with constipation too which is often a problem with clients on many medications.
I would say talk to the people in charge at such venues but definitely go for it! People in those situations / institutions are often very lacking in basic human and physical contact (I speak from experience of being shouted at by Matron in a home once when I was doing holiday work in such a place for actually bothering to talk and treat the residents like human beings!!) and as long as you are aware in terms of contraindications you can only be doing them good! :0)
