Spinal stenosis

After a month or two of pain down both legs which was progessively getting worse coupled with periodic numbness in my abdomen and down my legs I went from physio to oestopath to spinal specialist who ordered an MRI . The result was me being diagnosed with spinal stenosis at L4/5 and a referral to see a spinal surgeon. Given the periodic numbness my back specialist has already subtley started to get me ready for surgery , which I would want to be my very last option. Anyone out there got anything simliar and had non-operative procedures done that were successful ?

Hi NickW. A fellow sufferer of stenosis here. However, unfortunately I don't have much advice for you about treatment. My stenosis was only picked up on the MRI I had done for a disc prolapse. I had spinal surgery for my disc issue late last year and am beginning to think it may be the first of many surgeries for my back issues. My stenosis has now been picked up but it doesn't seem we are at the stage of doing anything about it as yet.
Anyway, I will be watching your thread with interest to see the ideas that come through.

Well I will keep you informed on this thread Subi. Am waiting for the spinal surgeon to ''invite'' me to an appointment after my back specialist referred me to him 2 weeks ago. Being an Aussie myself I dont quite understand how the medical system here works this way and why I cant just pick up a phone as we do back home and call the specialist to make the appointment myself. All very strange , especially as I'm pretty much in constant pain when I walk and a 2 week wait is not something you'd expect when you are paying out for private health.
