Does anybody know where I can find some information concerning the the  treatment of SpinoCerebellar Degenereation with massage therapy?  I have googled it and yahooed it and can only find basic information on the disorder, its been good information but nothing massage specific.   I also have a write a note of recommendation to this clients insurance company (along with one from her Dr.) eeek - i dont work with insur. comps - i dont know what I am supposed to write!

Also known as Friedreich's Ataxia.   I am getting very frustrated - all the websites about this disorder and not one mentions the releif that massage therapy can provide.   "Physical therapy can strengthen muscles and walking aids are available" is pretty much it.  Nice.  *sigh*  One day they will realize.

I had a similar ARRRRGGGHHH yesterday!  A client had an appointment with me for deep tissue massage --- doctor's office set up the appointment.  Client comes into the wellness center and is directed to rehab where they proceed to give her stretches to do and manipulate her joints and limbs for 15 minutes and charge her insurance for an astronomical amount.  MT is not covered by her plan --- so regardless of what would help, they give her what the insurance will pay for ------------ARRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHH!PS-- I only found out about this because I called the client to see why she was a NO SHOW ----thank heavens I was professional leaving that message!  Linda B. in NC

It is frustrating.  We are trying to get this clients insur. company to start taking care of it, but who knows.  We have perscription from her Dr. for massage, and she doesnt use the chiro. that her insur. does cover sooo......maybe.  probibly not but its worth a shot.

I early 2004 I was involved in something called The Training and Support Program which involves being taught a variety of massage techniques which are said to help with pain relief and mobility. This therapy needs to be carried out 2-3 times per week to really be effective. I have noticed massive improvements in my back pain, sleep patterns and muscle spasms. My entire body feels so much more relaxed.
