As a sports massage therapist I use massage as part of my treatment as well as other sport therapy techniques.
Whilist training, we used a 'Sport massage' oil as a medium to massage. Like many of the 'Sports' oils around they consisted of.....Sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, lavender oil, pepermint oil etc etc. OK to use unless you have someone with a nut allergy. I also found that it clogged the skin even with a small amount used and have to use the colonge afterwards, stains clothing, some clients didn't like the odour and couldn't be used on wounds etc. I also found that it didn't really penetrate deeply enough for deep tissue work.
After research I found an oil that has Anti-inflammotary properties, non- comedogenic (doesn't clog), deeply penetrates, has no odour, hypoallergenic (can be used on all skin types), doesn't stain clothes or skin and is fine to use on recent wounds (and can help with the healing process) and is used on top marathon athletes. Ooo and you don't need to use any colonge afterwards!!!!
And the oil is.......EMU OIL
(The only problem is if you get a client who is a 'a veegan/vegetarian'!!!)
I used this oil all the time and find that it is an excellent oil to use in sports massage.
Does anyone else use Emu oil OR what oils to you use for massage and what do you think of them?
