St Tropez Recliner from Argos

I have a La Fuma recliner and absolutely love it. I want to get a second recliner to leave at a room I'll be working from and have just received a La Fuma look alike I ordered of Ebay. However, while it looks similar, it only outs the feet at half the height of the La Fuma (the La Fuma puts the feet 70cm off the ground)

I see that Argos have a similar chair in their new catalogue for £39.99 (more than the Ebay one, but a lot less than a La Fuma!) Has anyone bought the Argos recliner, and if so, how high do the feet go?!

I got one from Argos last year and put it next to my friends la fuma and there was very very little in it - her reflexology tutor also said you could buy the chair from argos to use - as i understand it the la fuma chairs were not specially designed for reflexology - my friend had one 15 years ago from germany as just a garden chair
I dont know if it was just a happy accident that they were suitable for reflexology or if the la fuma have been tweeked but I dont think so

I use the argos one as it was much cheaper to buy when i was first starting out. I have been using it for over a year now without any problems or complaints - i think it's a great chair, and as said in the previous post there is very little difference between it and a LaFuma.

I have one of these - its fantastic, and a damn sight cheaper that the La Fumas!! They're all just garden recliners anyway - and, I've heard that Woolworths do one now too!

But, if you are going to get one, do it fast, cos Argos tend to sell out pretty quickly ( I wanted a green one, but had to settleon a blue one due to no stock - and I figured blue was better than none at all!!!)

do the argos chairs lie flat out and does anyone use a quilt or anything for the client? im actually shocked that u cud use these chairs and its very cheap. is it better than using a beauty couch does anyone no? always does the feet end come up as far as ur waist so ur not stretching?

Why are you shocked that these chairs are used? They keep the client in the perfect position for reflexology. Feet high enough to treat comfortably. Body in an 'S' shape for complete relaxation and head high enough to have face to face contact between client and practitioner. Perfect for the practitioner to guage the clients reactions to treatment. You may need a pillow or cushion under the feet and a blanket to cover client if he/she gets cold, but that is all. The chair is easily transportable. I have a La Fuma but only because my local garden centre was selling it off at a 50% reduction to make room for the Christmas stuff. Otherwise I would have got one from Argos.

What did you use whilst training and for your case studies? I was once treated on a flat treatment couch and couldn't move for ages after. I was so stiff. Never again. There was no benefit with that treatment!

Try one of these chairs. You will be amazed.

Hi may I ask, there doesnt appear to be a lock on these chairs as there is on the Lafuma (I note prev comments about ist sometimes not working!!) does that make a difference when you are working with this chair?

Yes, there is a lock - its not the greatest, but it does stop rocking.

Oh, and I got myself a lafuma bag to carry it/store it in!!! Cheeky, eh??!! He he!!

Hi - interesting read and I wondered if the following should be considered re health, safety and insurance. I own two Lafumas for reflexology and I understand that Lafuma KNOW the chair is used by reflexologists and also carry a max weight, in fact they do an extra large for tall and larger clients - SHOULD anything happen, do you have any comeback on the Argos one if you admit it has been used for reflexology...?

Also - those of you who have the Argos one - do the Lafuma accessories like the tray table for client's water fit them? Thanks

Hi,

I have been using the Argos chair for over a year now and no probs at all with it and when compared it to a friends Lafuma was very very similar!! I use a single duvet on mine folded in half with a pillow on head rest and a shaped neck pillow to raise feet to perfect level.

Hi there I bought an argos chair to use when I do any taster sessions or that kind of thing. It has been great for that but I don't know how strong it would be if I used it every day - but then again how strong is the LaFuma??

I have an old lady who comes and she prefers to be treated on the chair rather than my treatment couch and so I use it then. Otherwise when I do my other treatments I use the couch. I find that it is much better for my own posture as I'm not bending over as much as I do when I use the chair. Also I trained in maternity last year and we were told not to use the reclining chair for pregnant ladies - especially as they got bigger.

As for the original question I think the height is pretty similar - although i do put a pillow on the end for the client's comfort. I just find that I'm not as comfortable.

However, I can really see the advantage of using these when you're mobile as they are just so easy to transport.

Thanks! Some great feedback! I bought the Argos chair, but it may get returned. It seems to be quite good quality, certainly a lot cheaper, but doesn't kick the feet up quite so high or lock as well. I could get over this with thicker or two pillows, but the thing that puts me off is that it's harder to sit down on! The lower portion which supports the legs doesn't tuck back as well as the La Fuma (still at quite an angle while the La Fuma leg section sits nearly vertical as you sit down, and so it's harder to sit down on before you lean back and recline. Did I get a duff one, or has anyone else found them tricky???!!

I may return it, and wait until Morrisons stock theirs again (after Easter I'm told), as a friend bought one, I tested it during a treatment, and no dfference to my La Fuma, and only cost £23.99 if I remember! Wish I had bought one last Summer.....
