Started Yesterday!

Started first day yesterday!!! SO HAPPY!!! Orientation and the beginnings of Swedish regarding Effleuage. The only thing I am worried about is that I have a full time job and then school 6-10 tues,wed,thurs. If that's not bad enough in a few months I will have to do clinicals every weekend and maybe on mon and fri nights. I am scared I will drop from exhaustion but I am determined to finish. Any suggestions?

Happy to hear you started school! I started 2 weeks ago. I have a full time job and a 3 year old. My bf babysits while I'm in school. Without him, I wouldn't even consider school until she was maybe 10. My schedule is wednesdays and fridays 7-10 and saturdays n sundays 10-6. It's not going to be like that for me EVERY week, but some weeks will consist of all of those days.

I was worried about not having time for my daughter, possible burn out and all that stuff. Then I remembered how just worrying alone can drain someone. But I just reminded myself that it's only temporary. When it's all over, I'll have more than enough time for my "MiniMe" and life will be better for us because I'll be happier, I'll have the CAREER I've been wanting (kinda sounds like a commercial, huh?) , and hopefully we'll be more financially stable.


All I can suggest is eat foods that don't "put you out", roll with the punches, appreciate where you are, and stay present and focused. Remind yourself why you're in school. That should mentally keep you going. If you need extra words of encouragement, this is the perfect forum. I'm a pretty good "pep talker", too. The people here are really cool. We can keep each other focused. I know I'm gonna need it too.

When I started school, I was working part time. It was easy to find the timeto do everything. This semester, which is my last, is already exhausting, 2 weeks in. I needed benefits, and the only way to get them was to either buy them, which I couldn't afford, or work full time.

Like carlanicole says, I just keep my eyes on February '06, when I can get back to a "normal" schedule, and hopefully be working as an mt. And in the meantime, try to receive as much bodywork as possible!!

If the option of working part time is available, you can wait to see how hectic things get, and if necessary, change your situation midway through.

I graduated from a 2200 hour program in a year and a half while working full time. About five months into it, I found it to be too much.. not exhausting, but just a bit too much. so I started working part time. It really eased the workload, energy, and time management issues.

If you dont have the option to work part time, its all about self discipline... in your time management, your diet, your sleep patterns, etc.
Develop a weekly plan that works, and stick to it. Just know that its only temporary... and im sure the fact that you are determined will make it that much easier.

Best of luck, and it will definitely pay off in the long run. this is a great profession to venture into.

I'm also one of those work full time/study full time MT students. I'm in my second month and have. . .5 1/2 more to go.

The only plus side is that the company I work for, I am allowed to work from home pretty much because we have a monitoring system for our companies in N. Florida and India. I can see and hear my employees. So that's a bonus, but it's still difficult. I won't say impossible.

Our school schedule is pretty intense M-F, 9am - 1:30pm and then I work fro 3-11pm. M-F.

I agree with Dwayne about self-dicipline - School is not forever and you pretty much just need to use the time that you do have, wisely. I find that studying for an hour or so is a good way to go. Try to read the material BEFORE you get to class, it'll help you understand whatever the Prof's say.

A good peice of advice I can give you is to not stress and have fun with it. There's nothing quite as unique as going to school and getting massaged for it.

Been in school for 6 months now. Also work full time. Best thing that I have going for me is I work graveyard. My school is an 11 month program from mon-thurs 6-10pm. Then I go to work 11pm to 7am. Not a bad gig. Studying will working. But for the majority, people work during the day and school at night. Don't know how they do it.

I feel soo lucky that my parents are helping. However i think i am trickign them becasue i am going to get a science degree at the same time, but i really dont want to do that. shhh dont tell them! I told them when i transfer to a 4 year college i can use massage to pay for school then i can work on my schedule and study more. I am going to do that, however statisically masage pays good money. So that bacholor will look real nice on my wall doing nothing.
Anyways tehy pay for school and my living exspences, i only work 3 days a week to pay for books and such.
Although i know it can get tiring, most of teh time massage programs last a year, and most people can deal with being so over booked for at least a year. It is the moms who work take care of the home and go to school for a 4 year degree i feel sorry for... or maybe it is respect.

i work full time and had class 3 nights a week. i'm almost finished with my internship/clinical. i've been averaging about 4 nights a week plus saturdays.

this is my last week!!!!
