strange thing happened today..

I wasn't sure where to place this question I have..Well anyways, today while I while massaging this therapist, I had him face down 1st. I had finished working(massaging) with the legs as I was on his back, on 1 side of his back, mid right I felt this hot flash go up my arm into my face with some sweat & I was saying to myself I know I had put the AC on, well after I had done that I worked around the whole side but came back to that area not thinking much about it & as I was using my thumb going up the lamina groove that same spot my thumb quiverred like having the chills but it carried up my whole arm. I thought maybe I had poor body mechanics so I switched hands & the same thing again. I mentioned it to him what was happening & he told me that no one ever noticed that area being a problem except for me & he has had some problems there. strange feeling. Next, another area that kept me was the top of his head.. I felt like I was having so much comotion going on, like a cartoon speedy Gonzalez, I just felt this with my hands..Why?? I have felt & seen different things with other clients & have mentioned to some & they will say oh yeah & I was up all night for having this issues that kept them awake. Today, I tried to ignore it but "it" wouldn't let up.. I did write to a scientist once before & he told me it was the client who might have seen colors because of her face being squished. Yeah ok.. The therapist told me to work with this, but how?? Does this make sense??

Yes, it makes a lot of sense to me! Have had similar experiences with different types of clients whether doing massage or energetic healing.

In my experiences, the "hot" spots were emotions in some instances that were stored away so they could be dealt with later; in others, energy cysts from an injury or disease. With one of my female clients, her head is always buzzing with energy and weird swirly patterns because she is an emotional train wreck and refuses to learn to calm herself or get therapy for her anxieties.

thank you so much for explaining. I thought I was going insane or something... Other things have been happening with other clients & as well nothing with others. I just don't know what to do with this. I mentioned this to another therapist who has been a massage therapist for many yrs & he said I have a strong intuition. Now what?? I have gone home with headaches & being exhausted in another, but not all the time.. I go & wash it off me.(hopefully that makes sense) thanks again

If you have strong intuition, and you may well have from your description, try this: pay attention to what sights, sounds, colors, smells, sensations, etc occur in correlation with which clients. For me this can translate into some of the following things:

1. MMMMM..... buzzing under the fingers around Jim's shoulder blade, maybe his kids are bugging him and are all over his back about taking care of himself again............

2. Smelling onions and garbage, maybe her colitis is kicking up again........

Hopefully you'll understand where I am headed with that..... I've discovered through the years that I am a bit of an empath as well as very intuititve about what's going on with the clients' bodies. It took me a while to understand that my intuition was offering me "clues" as to what was going on with my clients....... I had to figure out for myself what those "clues" meant........... like a secret language specific only to me..........

You are not going insane....... really you aren't. It just feels that way for the time being.

Going home with headaches etc does seem to denote that you are inadvertently picking up some of the drek from your clients with weird energy issues..... OR, that you are not paying enough attention to the body mechanics issues because you are being distracted by the energy signals. I keep lots of crystals in my massage room to help dissipate "extra" energies from my clients. Also, if I have been working with someone who sheds their excess energy like a snake sheds its skin, I wash my hands and forearms in cold water, take a pinch of salt in my mouth and then brush myself down with my hands from head to toe like I am dusting off lint. Seems to keep me well-grounded and sans headaches, exhaustion, etc.

If you know in advance you will be working with someone who has shared energies, etc with you before, make sure you take steps to ground yourself well BEFORE you work with them again. That will help as well.

Boy oh Boy does this help me thank you again.. This does make sense. Are there certain crystals to have around in the room?? I wear an ameythst heart necklace (which 1 of the clients/therapist gave me for Chirstmas who I had the sensations with) Also, I have massaged them before & have not had these feelings before until those times & I have massaged again after with nothing.
Is there classes or books to read up on so that I can better learn??
What does drek mean? I'm new to this & don't want to pick up anymore of their "weird energies"

In addition to crystals (many, but I recommend selenite and black kyanite in particular) I keep a bowl filled with rock salt in my treatment room. I kept a tied bundle of white sage sticking up in it. Due to the high humidity here it eventually disintegrated and I mixed the dried herb into the rock salt. When I feel I have particularly "different" energy crawling up my arms I plunge my hands into the salt and rub them gently but vigorously.

In my office I keep clear quartz, kyanite, sodalite, amethyst, citrine, hematite, peridot, jasper, bloodstone, moss agate, feldspar, amazonite, malachite, lapis lazuli, adventurine, and whatever else the other stones are that I don't remember currently. They have all "come" to me at different seforum.xxxes in my life, and different seforum.xxxes in my practice.

One of my stone sensitive friends has told me that she loves coming into my office because it is such a positive swirl of healing energies both from the stones, the cleansing incenses I burn, and my personal energies. It is my belief that each of the stones has its own part in making the healing energies in my office so strong and so enhanced as to help negate the "weird" that occasionally comes my way.

Check out books like, Divine Intuition by Lynn A. Robinson, You Are Psychic by Pete A. Sanders Jr................... read books on Reiki, Qigon, Tai Chi, etc. Visit with other therapists whom you know to have sensitivities to energies and ask them to teach you, or explain how they perceive things to you............ visit "psychic/new age" expos and listen to various lectures.............

Most of all, just be aware of what you "feel" like to yourself on a daily basis. Know what your normal energies feel like. When something unusual appears, think about whether or not it is occurring outside of you and working its way in, or is occurring inside of you and working its way out. By knowing what is "normal" for you, it will help you discern where other energies are coming from and help you determine how best to handle them.

One other thought --- when you received the necklace, did you cleanse it before you put it on? Sometimes, in the past, I have received lovely presents from friends, clients, etc and just plopped them onto myself without first cleansing them with incense, water, sunlight, whatever, and have experienced the energies of the giver and/or whomever crafted that particular piece of jewelry, etc. Learned quickly to appreciate the gift, admire it while the giver was present and to NOT put it on without a small cleansing ritual just because that helped me maintain what passes for "normal" in my energy fields.....

At my last continuing education course in Milwaukee there was a vendor who had quite a nice selection of handmade jewelry and lots of loose stones. I thought it would be particularly nice (and fairly inexpensive) to collect a bunch of the stones and put them in a pretty bowl in the treatment room. Sort of like, potpourri... w/o the scent. :
I started my collection with adventurine as I did not have any jewelry or anything of that material.
I also got a gorgeous flourite wand and a beautiful Himalayan Rock Salt Lamp when I was there.

thanks for the tips for the stones/crystals. In the office we do have 3 of those salt rocks that light up. The necklace I did put on that day. A woman came in our office showing us the jewerly that came from missionaries from Thailand had made & I had liked the amethyst so the therapist bought it for me for Christmas. I will look into those books too. Also, 1 of those clients that I had those feelings had asked me if I was into reiki on our 1st visit. I wasn't. The therapist also would like to teach me Tai Chi. This therapist & I will be working as a team & we do trade off massages so I will take care of myself with some of the things you mentioned. thanks again. I'm so glad I found this site. I love learning

Energy Model Answer

I often hear of massage therapist and bodyworkers ‘picking up energy, the good kind or the bad kind, from their clients, and I have an explanation for this that is different than what most therapists consider. This comes from a background in science as well as doing energy work for over 20 years. I do not believe that we pick up good or bad energy from our clients when we work on them. That does not make sense in scientific terms, so it does not make sense in the energetic terms, because to me, if it works in one realm, it should also work in the other.

I think what happens is that we reflect each other’s energy, and the source is universal energy. So if a client has a headache, we do not pick up their headache, we merely reflect their headache energy in our bodies and since we draw energy from the universe, it feeds the headache energy that we are experiencing, because it is possible that we can work on someone with a headache and both of us have headaches at the end of the session.

So what you experienced with the client’s back was your body reflecting the energy that was in that area, and it caused your thumbs to quiver, and the noise in his head was still there, you just reflected it in your own head,
