It depends whether you have a solid paradigm for helping them with their situation. If you have that then there is a case for beginning straight away, your actions will be guided by your understanding of what you are trying to do to help, so you will only do what is right and nothing else - in theory!
Do bear in mind that strokes are often caused by blood clots of the vessels in the neck - bits break off and travel to the brain, where they then block smaller vessels, cutting off the blood supply. Hence, be aware of the anatomy and the possible consequences of disturbing the carotid artery.
