I have  an aquaintance that suddenly lost his hearing completely in his left ear after hearing a loud pop in it. At the same time he lost almost complete balance. This occurred almost 2 months ago. The doctors thought is was a sinus infection but later determined that he caught a virus in his inner ear that caused damage. He is currently on steroids but has been told that he most likely will not ever get his earing back and may or may not regain his balance and focus. I was wondering if anyone has heard of this before and whether or not cranial sacral therapy would help or hurt.

I am not trained in CS, but I think he should look into finding a physical therapist that is specifically trained in balance issues relating to the inner ear specifically chochlear vestibular therapy.  I know that only large pt clinics have this specialty.  I live close by Helen Hayes Hospital in NY and they do have that specialty, so I would look into finding someone who works with that population.  Unfortunately with inner ear damage such as this, it is a life long issue that will have to be delt with, and doesn't heal very well.  He also has to be monitored by an ear nose and throat specialist to make sure that scar tissue doesn't build up and make the situation worse.  But if this is within CS, I would speak to the practitioner about the condition before booking an appointment just to make sure that they can handle the situation.Good Luck!
