Several of you have mentioned that you use Sunbeam brand table/matress warming pads purchased at Wal-mart/K-mart etc.

I just purchased one a few days ago and seem to have trouble keeping the table warm. I think it is losing heat through the sheet and blanket I use (a hospital type blanket with a loose waffle-weave - i find it easiest for draping). The only place it gets warm is under the ankle pillow. I tried stacking some folded up sheets on the rest of the table to hold in heat before the client gets in, but it doesn't seem to be working.

What layers/materials are you using to keep the heat from escaping? Something under the pad as well as over it? Heavy quilts? Help! I want toasty sheets!

It isnt so much trapping the heat.

Mattress pads are meant to heat very gently. Try laying on the your table and you should feel the heat. When I am working on a client and I lean against the table, I can then feel the heat.

What number do you have yours on? Mine goes up to 21. I generally keep mine around 17 or 19. Very seldom do clients tell me it is too warm. When they do, I just unplug it for thier session and that is that.

I have my heating pad under a sheep skin. The main reason I have it under is because the heat does go through it and then my clients are laying directly on the coils, which I think are a bit lumpy.

Mine is under a thickish flannel mattress cover and the sheet. Mine doesn't have numbers, has a tapered scale, I put it on about half...it warms up the room too.

Hi. I have been thinking about purchasing a matress pad warmer. How do you all work with the electric cord? Do you tape it down? Do you need and extension cord with the Sunbeam brand? I also have another issue. I have a weekly outcall who gets cold very easily. She is always cold when I have to pull my cold table out of my car and I was thinking that a matress pad warmer would take too long to heat up. I don't want to have to get there an hour early just to warm up the table. Hmmm... maybe just bring a sheepy fleece pad for it? Any thoughts?

I use the table warmer that is sold through massagewarehouse. I place it on the table so that the cord is at the bottom of the table. When I bring the client in to the room, I enter 1st and unplug it so they can enter without fear of tripping on the cord, then once they are in the room I replug it. I would never tape a cord to the floor as that is a fire hazard. The warmer that I have warms up almost immediately. You can plug it in and the table is warm by the time the client undresses and gets on the table....maybe not to the warmest point but definitely warm enough to feel.

Mine does have an auto shut off, it is a nice feature! It shuts off after about 8 hours.

I also use the sunbeam warmer on my table. I have the warmer, a fleece pad, then the sheets. The temp is usually on 4 to 6 and that is plenty warm for my clients. If yours isn't warming up, you could have a defective pad, I would take it back for a return.
