TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — A Tacoma councilman is cracking down on city massage parlors with a plan to restrict their hours of operation.
The News Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/2clf9wc ) that Councilman Marty Campbell asked the City Council on Tuesday to consider a law that would prevent the businesses from operating between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. The proposal comes after prostitution stings on nine massage parlors earlier this month in Tacoma and Lakewood.
Campbell says the curfew could improve the quality of life for residents who live near the businesses and help cut down on human trafficking.
Tacoma police spokeswoman Loretta Cool declined to say whether human trafficking was involved in the prostitution arrests, citing an ongoing investigation.
Police previously said none of the female workers arrested had held masseuse certifications in Washington.
