CHARLOTTE – Last week I discussed why you might not want to talk during a massage, this week I’ll touch on why some people do. First, your successful massage depends on several factors, one of them rapport. Having a massage therapist you feel comfortable around can make a difference in how you respond to your therapy.
With that said, sometimes you feel comfortable chatting with your therapist about all sorts of things, not just your those relative to your session. That’s okay. There are people that blow off steam or destress by getting their feelings out of their head and into the universe. I think it could become an issue if I too, enjoy the conversation so much that pretty soon we’re in a full blown discussion where the massage takes a back seat. When that happens, that’s my fault. I’ve blown all the way through my boundary. But I do enjoy every one of my clients. I love getting to know them and creating an atmosphere where my clients are encouraged to feel safe in the confines of my office under my care.
Here’s what I’ve made an effort to do starting last week. I speak when spoken to and answer any questions that clients throw my way. I don’t ask a lot of questions back or try to have a conversation unless it’s necessary. It’s taking some getting used to but it encourages me to listen to you and focus on what’s at hand. After all, this is YOUR massage.
